SNOW, Mrs. Edgar (Mrs. Nym Wales Snow)
Washington, D. C.
Feb. 24, 1942.
Writes the President that her husband has suggested that she send some
material to the President. Says she has an article coming out in Pacific
Affairs, March quarterly, of which she is enclosing a carbon copy. Says
she is also sending the autobiography of a Korean, SONG OF ARIRAN, which
she edited. Is also sending the President a copy of her book on the Chinese
Industrial Cooperatives, CHINA BUILDS FOR DEMOCRACY. Says this book was actually
written for the President indirectly though she never expected the President to
read it. Says she had the President back in her mind all of the time as the great
hope for trying to get some American support for the movement. The President, on
Feb.28th, wrote Mrs. Snow that he was delighted to have the copies of her books
and also the article. The President said he had learned a great deal from them, es-
pecially about Korea.

Dear Mr Early:
Enclosed are the pictures which I
promised to send some time ago. Thinking that these
might be kept for some time they have been surfaced
and sealed for preservation against damp and dust.
I have added one of Lincoln which may be
liked; we do.
Should the former pictures be exchanged
for these, we will be glad if you will give the others
or retain them as you wish.
Thanking you for your kind letter of the

in this home of the "Worlds Greatest Hate Heaver" we
have been pleased to note, rallying to our great

The President of the United States,
White House,
Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. President:
It is with the greatest pleasure we present you
with this little token of our regard.
While
the
world
is
torn
by strife we still cherish in our hearts, along with you, a desire
for Peace.
This is a replica of the Peace Arch at Blaine, Washington,
on the border line between the United States and Canada, just North
of Bellingham. The little pamphlet enclosed tells in detail the
Story of the Peace Arch.
When the smoke of battle rolls away, may a like symbol
grace the boundaries of many more countries, each based on mutual
understanding and love, as is this reminder of the relations between
these United States and our good neighbor Canada.
We look forward to the day when you may be able to
view the original Peace Arch, amid it's beautiful surroundings,
and personally greet the people of this great and patriotic Northwest;
and hope that some day we may see this small Arch grace your desk,
if not in reality, then through the medium of the press or the news
reel.
With kindest regards and felicitations for your
Birthday, we are,
Proudly,

The work on the Peace Portal was started
in July, 1920. Workmen from both sides of the
line labored side by side with one motive in
mind- completion of a monument which
might ever stand for a high degree of skill and
the closest ties of companionship. The struc-
ture contains 800 cubic yards of concrete, tied
together with 50 tons of tension steel, and is
practically earthquake proof. One foot is plant-
ed in Canadian soil and the other is anchored
in the mother earth of the U. S. A. Four hun-
dred seventy electric light bulbs are set artist-
ically along the interior frieze and up and
