Dear Mr. Ferguson:
Please accept the President's thanks
for your kind letter of June twenty-ninth and
permit me to assure you of his appreciation of
the copy of "The Journal of Henry Ferguson".
As you know, the President is deeply attached to
the sea and to everything pertaining to it.

I am sure, upon reflection, you will
understand why it would not be feasible for the
President to take the initiative in the matter of

making this volume available to the Navy. Never-
theless, he greatly appreciates your willingness
to cooperate.

Dear Mr. President:
Please do me the honor to accept this
cane. It was made by my father in 1886.
At his death I became heir to it. It is
a Texas product, the head being made of
Black Haw root. The little hook is an
off shoot from the main root. Notice the
eagle's head near the top, also the dog's
head near the lower end of the cane. I
don't use a cane, as I don't need one,
yet. I am only 84 years old. It is a
stout cane and will support a large man's
weight.

My Very Dear Mr. Roosevelt:
Marin
I have mailed to you today & very interesting wooden box made of 33
pieces of wood. I have used dry prun boxes, fruit and cream cheese boxes
and a few different kind pieces of wood.
I have also packed in this box the following items. (1) Tier Table, (1)
Beach chair, (1) folding Bridge table chair, (1) wooden iron board, (1)
Wheelbarrow, (1) very attractive novelty bottle and (1) very interesting
piece made only of 2 pieces of wood.
I have used for all above mentioned items including the box 110 pieces
of wood. (1) piece of criton and (1) bottle. All the pieces havel66 halls
and 266 cut-ins.
The most important feature in all this wooden novelties is, that I have
constructed all these articles without the use of hammer, nails, screws
or glue. I ASK TO HANDLE THIS VERY CAREFULL. Thank you. If no one will
be able to open the novelty box without braking that, then I will open
that for you if I will be called for.
However, if I will be called to open this box, I will be very glad indded
to present your Excelence with the very new American Flag that I have gim
just started to work on. Of course nice American Flags is not new to us
Americans, a fact all American Flags are wonderful, but this American
Flag that I refer to is an exception to all American Flags. My New American
Flag will be made from about 150. pieces of wood and will be constructed
the same manner as the novelty box you are looking on. And above all.
This new American Flag that I talk about, represent America with the 49
States instead of now America with 48 States. Therefore has this new
American Flag 49 Stars instead of now the American Flag with 48 Stars.
The 49th State I talk about is "ALASCA". Which teritory we should have
adobted as a 49th State long before.
I haven't displayed the 49 Stars in a box form 7/7. This new American
Flag with the 49 Stars is wonderful designed and when ths New American
Flag will be completed it will look absolutely beautiful. Another very
important fact is that I haven't efected in no way the colors and the
size of the navy blue on this New American Flag. Not even the distance
between the Stare.

Dear Mr. President:
Sometime during the years you have been our Commander-
in-Chief, and also the nation's Number One Radio Man,
you may have seen the gay and gallant "Old Colonel F&P"
who graces the pages of various radio publications and
has become something of a character in the radio industry.
Since this year marks the Old Colonel's Tenth Anniversary,
we have had the old rascal immortalized in plaster, and
are sending him to the leaders in radio broadcasting. We
are presuming to send him to you, under separate cover, in
the hope he may turn out to be a cheerful and amusing
paper-weight in these troublous times.
