My attention was caught especially because they had\nnot given you my book on Portsmouth, which happens to be my\nfor\nbirthplace and home. As it has a good deal of early voyage stuff,\nin view of your present courtesy to me as expressed by this Tea,\nbooks\nI am going to send you before the 21st a copy of \"Early Portsmouth\nHistory\" by Ralph May. To soften this blow to you somewhat I am\nto\ngoing to send along with it, on the bare chance that you have not\nit now, a copy of Champlain's Journal. This is very fascinating\nreading of the first recorded voyage of considerable length along\nthe coast from the St. Croix River southward. As you probably\nknow, it is delightfully told. The translation is good. I think\nas one who has cruised this coast as you have, if by the slight-\nest chance you have not seen it and do not own it, you will find\nit of interest. The day by day pages can be read at will. They\nare all a fascinating description of a summer's cruise by shores\nwe know well but to Champlain a wholly unknown new world. The Medal of the Immaculate Con-\nception, now more popularly called the Miraculous Medal be-\ncause of the numberless miracles attributed to its efficacy, was\np.p7.\n01 heavenly origin.\nThe brief statement of its origin is as follows: Early in the\nyear 1830, a young country girl-Catherine Labourè, entered the\ndaughters of Charity in France.
