F. Liddon, a\nwealthy man whose energy and force of character\nis putting over the T.V.A. in this section) wanted\nto present to The President a valuable book about\nthe Battle of Shiloh, which it seems was given to\nher by a Confederate Veteran, who in his life time\nresided at Corinth and who was in that battle.\nIt seems that she turned the book over\nto Mr. E. S. Candler, Mayor of Corinth (and the\nformer Member of Congress) who boarded the train\nwith us, and who was supposed to and for all I know\nmay have handed the book to Mrs. Roosevelt, or to\nsomeone for her.\nMr. B. F. Liddon has told me confidentially\nthat he, his grand-daughter and his family have never\nreceived any acknowledgement from Mrs. Roosevelt.
