My dear Mr. McNay:
The President has received your letter
of February first and the two copies of the year
book to which you refer. He will be obliged if
you will convey to the students of the Bret Harte
Junior High School his appreciative thanks for
their kind thought in dedicating the year book to
him and for sending him a copy of it.
I am more than sorry that we cannot do
as you ask. The pressure of the President's work
is so great and he is so overwhelmed with requests
for his signature, that he is unable to comply with
them. I am, therefore, returning the second copy
of the year book unsigned.

Honorable Franklin D. Roosevelt,

The White House,

3/17/37
My dear Mr. Roosevelt:-
1 am sending you a letger of a belated Birthday Greetings.
Wishing you a Happy Birthday and the best of health the rest
of your life. 1 have made you a beautiful birthday present
but on account of being stricken in November with pneumonia
was unable to get it to you on your birthday of January 30th.
1 hope you will accept it as a Birthday gift, although late
in arriving. 1 had it almost ready when my baby girl took
sick with pneumonia just ten days before your Birthday and
had to stop work on it; but she is well now and 1 have it
finished and hope to get it off on Monday next by American
Railway Express. It will reach you by Friday of next week.
I have been stranded a little as 1 lost my dear Pal and Wife
last July 9th., and she left me three babies and it is pretty
hard to get along; cannot get the right help. Because I am
not working regular now, as I am a carpenter; it has rained so
much- I have lost a lot of time and my expenses are going up
on a less income and I hope you will understand the delay in
getting this gift to you.
It is a coat and Hat rack of inlaid woods and is a "Work of ArT"
and it also carries your life history as President of the United
States of America.
Here is the History of your Gift
The bottom of the rack is painted white on the ends and that is
a symbol of entering the White House. You will note you step up
and the steps are rough; which means that you have worn them out
at the request of the people and on the end you will notice arrows
pointing to the figures 1936; which is the proudest year of your
life and at the same time to point to your enemies to see the
point that you are still at the helm. Then up on the standard
you will see inlaid "28,000,000 said Yes." But there is more history
that is true to the "Said Yes", and the "28,000,000". Throughout
the figures you will notice all kinds of people; White and Black,
had faith in you as our Leader; and the last cipher is all in
California Red Wood; which means that California, my home state,
was a solid one for you in spite of the Hearst papers and that
Landon came West to "Win California". The letter "S" in said
and the letter "Y" in yes is of Violet Wood from Brazil; a very
pretty wood near blue and are an honor to you dear Wife and Pal.
Page #2--continued
She likes blue and was disappointed in not being able to go with
you on your trip. so 1 put these in to honor Mrs. noosevelt,
who is a good Mother and a good pal to you, The "Said Yes"
means a word for each letter. S, for Save America; 1, for 1;
D, for Did; 1, for ou; E, for Ended; and S, for Starvation. which
is, "Save America, 1 did, You ended Starvation". The last letter
in "Yes", is of light wood and also of a fruit tree which is
Apricot Wood 1 cured myself; that is, you have won and have seen
the "frmits of your labor, well done", and a solid nation-happy
and thankful. When, as you like fishing as a sport and pastime,
I have made the hat and coat hangers to resemble a fish's mouth
in which you can hang either by the back strap in the neck band
of the coat, or a wire hanger. On the tip ot the Standard you
will see your initials in an emblem on top of what is meant the
Dome of the capital or Statue of Liberty.
I sincerely hope it arrives in good condition and that you will
be pleased with it and, Chief, be careful, but turn it up and
see what is on the bottom. My brother, who passed away, and 1
read your Life Horoscope and on September 29th., at 9.16 P. <1930-
Pacific Standard Time, knew that you were to be our President for
eight years. in 1934, when 1 sent you the Necktie Rack you will
remember, in the last part of the letter 1 told you then you would
be our President for eight years---and, thank God, the people
of this Nation finally woke up.
So, on behalf of my dearly departed wife and my three babies, 1
send you our deep Love from our hearts and wish you the best of
health and strength and that you will have a place the balance
of your life on this earth to "hang your hat".
With best regards,
Mr. Frank S. McKeever,
1718 So. Bundy Drive,
West LOS Angeles,
California.

P. S.
I heard your wonderful speech on your Birthday on my radio while
inlaying the word "Yes".
Also would like to go to Washington in May and see you.

My dear Mr. President:-
I am enclosing, herewith, one of our Daily Date Books,

You will perhaps recall that Governor Peery presented
Mrs. Menefee and myself at Big Meadows last summer, which
we remember with a great deal of genuine pleasure.
Trusting this little book will daily remind you of your

My dear Mr. Colee:
I am very sorry I must write you unfavor-
ably with reference to your letter of March seven-
teenth in which you request that an appointment be
made for Mrs. Carr B. McClenny to present to the
President the Democratic Marvel Quilt which she
has made.
Frankly, we are trying to afford him as
much rest as possible while here and I have re-
frained from making any engagements other than
those officially necessary. I am sure you will
appreciate the circumstances and understand the
situation.
However, I am sure the President would
be delighted to have the quilt and if Mrs. McClenny
cares to send it to me by mail or wishes to come
in person, I shall be very glad to receive it and
present it to the President with a word of explana-
tion.
I am sure you and Mrs. McClenny will under-

OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
Honorable Marvin H McIntyre
Secretary to the President of the United States
Warm Springs Georgia
My dear Mr McIntyre
I have in my office at this time one of our most distinguished
ladies of the State of Florida, One who has devoted her life and work
in the interest of the Democratic Party. She is a lady well along in age
but with a remarkable mind which has made her extremely helpful in connec-
tion with our Democratic campaigns. This lady is Mrs. Carr B. McClenny
of McClenny, Florida, now residing at Jacksonville Beach.
I am sure you are familiar, as a result of correspondence, with her
Democratic Marvel Quilt which is the work of her own hands and symbolic
of Bible facts and other history having to do with our great party. The
needle picture was visioned and stitched around the name of our distinguished
President. The attached papers will give you an idea of the quilt.
The idea of this communication is to arrange, if possible, for an
extremely brief conference between President Roosevelt and Mrs. McClenny
when she can present to him this remarkable and beautiful quilt; this
to be of course at any time and place convenient to the President.
We in Florida particularly in this section are much impressed with
the article and sincerely hope a moment can be set by you when this charm-
ing little lady can place the quilt in the hands of the President. I
would deeply appreciate the courtesy extended to her.
With warm personal regards, believe me

Honorable Franklin D. Roosevelt
President of the United States
Washington, D. C.
Dear Mr. President:
Several days ago I mailed to you a
copy of "National Defense and the San Diego Dredging
Program".
On the occasion of your last visit to
San Diego, when I, as a former resident of Red Hook,
had the honor to be presented to you on the ferry
going over to Coronado as the person who had charge
of your official itinerary the next day, you in-
dicated that you were particularly interested in
leaving the hotel in time to permit a visit to the
Naval Training Station and the Marine Base, and I
remember you stated to me that you wanted to inspect
these establishments as you in considered them "my babies".
In the brochure sent you, you will note that
this dredging program adds 580 acres to the Marine Base
and 72 acres to the Naval Training Station, and con-
sidering the value of the reclaimed lands to the Navy,
the net cost of this entire dredging project would be
approximately $1,000,000.
We know that we owe the last major dredging
project, which added over 500 acres to North Island,
to your interest and support, and fully realizing your
keen interest in our naval establishment, we are again
taking the liberty of calling this new Naval program to
your attention.
With all good wishes,
Respectfully yours,

His Excellency President Roosevelt,
Dear Mr Secretary of the President;
4/29/16
I know how busy
the President is and how impossible it is for
him to read all the books suggested to him.
However I would be so happy to have him read at
least that part of my book,
" Victims of Class Legislation"
which has to do with a discussion of the Courts,
which is an argument along the lines suggested
in his message.
As this book was written prior to the time that
the President announced his views on the Court,
it will be indeed interesting to him to know that
I had anticipated his announcement with arguments
similar to his.
These particular arguments begin on page 52
of the book and partiular reference is made to
a statement made by the president , on page 57
of that Chapter of the Book.
If you could only catch the President with
a mamerito give attention and read him these
pages, I am sure he would enjoy it.
Please write me that you have and his reaction
to it.
Thanking you in advance for the favor, I am,
Very truly yours,
Diam Office of

-Riberton, Nebr.
Box 494 Omaha Nebr. May 1st 1937.
Attention;
Mr Franklin D.Roosevelt,
Washington, D.C.
Secy. Mr A.Le Hand,
My dear Mr President;
The letter of your Secretary, of
April 27th, relative to my book,
" Victims of Class Legislation"
received.
I appreciate the truth of his statement that
because of the position of the President, his
popularity, and lack of time it would be impossible
and impolitic for him to comment on the various
books and articles submitted to him.
I indeed feel flattered that he by his
Secretary has deigned to devote the time and
consideration he has to answering my letters
concerning this Volume.
However, I am still hoping that I may have
the information that the President has read the Book,
or at least that portion of it from pages 57 to the
end of that Chapter, for the reason it is, to my mind
a cogent argument in behalf of his Court Plan, which
he would appreciate altho he never by comment
informed me that he approved or disaproved.
Therefore if it is possible and not in
conflict with the presidents rules , for him to
read the book or that portion , and then to have
his Secretary, inform me that he has, I will be very
happy.

Dear Mr. Early:
Thank you very much for your recent letter stating that the additional
boat pictures were received and had been presented to the President.
He probably will not have an opportunity to examine them very closely
until after the campaign. If there are any he might not care to keep,
please inform US.
If the President is conversant with the Naval Flag Code he will find an
interesting message, so the artist informed me, in the flags shown on the
oil painting.
Enclosed is a clipping taken from the Winona, Minnesota, Republican-Herald
edition following the President's St. Paul speech. I have a hunch that
we will be successful in having available for his use by that time one of
the proposed tourist boats which would provide him with a floating hotel
with all modern conveniences including a swimming pool, radio and telephone
facilities and traveling at a speed two or three times that of present old
time steamboats.
Wm. F. Gerecke has written to me from Miami, Florida where he is President
of Pan American Photo Service, Inc., and asks that his best regards be
extended to you. Strangely enough, he writes that he attended Webb Institute
of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering before he became interested in
modern photography. We haven't discovered yet whether we are related but
it appears that it might be probable.
