BRADLEY, D. Richards
Pleasantville, N. Y.
July 7, 1933
Sends the Premident a reproduction of an old photograph taken
in the seventies, showing the champion ice yacht, "Hayes" with her
difnified crew. Also encloses a booklet of the constitution of the
Poughkeepsie Ice Yacht Club, in which are the names of John A.
Roosevelt, James Roosevelt and William C. Arnold, his great Grand-
father. Asks the President to write in the first few blank pages
of the booklet the relationship between his present family and that
of Mr. John A. and Mr. James Roosevelt and return it to him. --- On
July 21st, the President thanked Mr. Bradley for the picture, but
stated that he did not recognize either his Uncle John or his father,
as being in it. Told him that he is sending the picture to his
cousin, Miss Ellen C. Roosevelt, John Roosevelt daughter, asking
her to make a check on the name of the ice yacht. -- On August 7th,
the President advised Mr. Bradley that his cousin, tells him that the
ice yacht was the "Haze," and she remembers the boat as being one of
the fastest on the river when she was a little girl.

Dear Mr. President:
Sending you herewith copy of a picture
of a group taken upon your visit to the home of Hon. James
M. Cox, in Dayton, this spring a year ago. Reading from
left to right, the group is - Hon. J. 0. Shoup, one of the
bwst known Democrats throughout this section and a very close
personal friend of Governor Cox, - the next gentleman, Mr.
Farley, of whom you have doubtless heard, - then yourself, -
then next is the writer, - to my left your old friend Judge
Marx, and on the right end is Albert A. Horstman, Chairman
of the Democratic Committee for Montgomery County, Ohio.
I know you have collected a great number
of interesting photographs and am very happy, indeed, to
add this one to your collection.
Inasmuch as I expect to be the candidate
for Governor of Ohio on the Democratic Ticket next year, I
am all the more interested in your great administration. I
am happy to report that throughout this entire section it is
meeting with hearty cooperation. You and your administra-
tion are a great success.
With best wishes and personal regarss, I

Dear Mr. President:
I have ventured to enclose for your kind acceptance the
World's recognized safeguard against misfortune and ill-luck -
"The Mahzel" - in the hope that you may retain it, and so partici-
pate in the benefit of its undoubted mystic influence.
Its traditional history dates back 3000 years to the
Royal House of David, by whom it was used as an emblem of hope
and good fortune, and down through the ages it has been treated in
that belief.
Its use as a symbol of the early Christians has been
established by recent discoveries of wall partitions, disclosed
after cleaning, and now on exhibition in Egyptian Monasteries
founded by St. Anthony and St. Paul.
Further evidence of Christianity is supplied by the
Ethiopian Court, the most ancient Court in direct line of descent,
where today the symbol is incorporated in the decoration of the
"Order of Saba."
It is carried by great numbers of the most prominent
people in the Royal, Social, Political, Stage and Film world.
I enumerate hereunder a few of the very many already
possessing the emblem and trust you will gratify me by consenting
to be associated with them.
