President George Bush
The White House
Washington, DC 20500
Dear President Bush,
WEAD-2
My name is Janet Wang and I am a Christian and a recent
graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. I am
writing to let you know of my concern for you as well as for what
I perceive to be going on in the White House today.
First of all, let me tell you that in November 1988,
hundreds of Christians from at least 5 different Christian
organizations on the Berkeley campus were praying for the
Presidential elections (of course we voted as well!). I am sure
that this scene was repeated on many campuses and in many
churches across the nation. As a Christian I believe that God
has placed you in this position of authority in our nation and I
have been and will be praying for you.
Let me next just list my concerns:
a) the removal of Doug Wead as your liaison to the religious
community:
b) your endorsement of the homosexual lifestyle via officially
inviting representatives from homosexual groups to the White
House (there is a line between loving and accepting the sinner
and loving and accepting the sin);
c) your invitation to Playboy publisher Christie Hefner to a
meeting at the White House; and
d) your support of continued government funding for anti-
Christian and pornographic works by the National Endowment for
the Arts.
Because you are a professed Christian and a man of family
values, I wish to encourage you to follow after God. I cannot
judge you. I can only imagine the pressures that you come under
as the leader of our nation and pray for God to guide you.
If I may I would like to share with you a short devotional
that I learned much from. It is from Daniel 6, about Daniel in
the Den of Lions and we were talking about Daniel's character
qualities.
The context is this: Daniel is an older man about 70 or 80
years of age. He continues to be an active man and is
exceptional in character. He is powerful and holds a high
position (#2) in a very important, extensive and wealthy kingdom
(it stretches from Persia to Egypt). He, himself, is important
and feared.
Daniel
1.
He is a man of exceptional quality (Daniel 6:3)
he has an excellent or remarkable spirit, one knew that
when one was around him.
he was good at what he did and he was trustworthy, he was
neither corrupt nor negligent, he was set apart.
2.
He is a man of prayer (Daniel 6:10)
He is committed faithfully to prayer.
He knew who to go to to get things done.
**He went straight to God without using any of his own
influence. (Didn't waste any time). Pray First!
Daniel has a sense of perspective and trust. He knows
who is in control.
He is a man who praises. He thanked God first before
giving any of his own requests. (When we're in hard
times, times of trial, remember to thank God first.)
M
He is a man of acceptance.
Daniel accepts from the hand of God whatever comes his way
without protest or complaining.
He had no vindictiveness in him, no "I told you 50's". He
simply pointed to God.
Results
1.
God is honored.
Daniel trusts God more
The king honors God
The king orders others to honor God.
2. Daniel is honored and his enemies are brought down.
These are a culmination of decisions made that put God first and
put his life in God's hand.
**The only way we can overcome the lions in our lives is in
giving ourselves trustingly and completely to God.
I hope that this is helpful to you. I would like to close
with the words of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah to the judges that he
appointed. He told them, "Consider carefully what you do,
because you are not judging for man but for the LORD, who is with
you whenever you give a verdict. Now let the fear of the LORD
be upon you. Judge carefully, for with the LORD our God there is
no injustice or partiality or bribery." 2 Chronicles 19:6
"To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present
you before His glorious presence without fault and with great
joy--to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and
authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now
and forevermore!" Jude 24-25

Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Mr. President,
I want to voice my concern to you for what I observe to
be a shift in your positions as it relates to the
evangelical Christian community. I have been one of your
strongest supporters but I am gravely disappointed in:
(1) Your open invitations to the White House to
representatives of the gay community.
Their deviant lifestyle can surely not be
condoned by you and yet to have them twice
present for the signing of legislation appears
to be a yielding to their influence. How can
you go against the moral position which so
many of us admired in you?
(2) Your firing of Doug Wead. Here is a man who
served you well, but because of his ties to
Evangelical Christians and his stand for
morality and decency, he gets the axe. He was
a real help to your election. Now who will
serve your interests among the evangelical
community?
I would encourage you to avoid such unwise activity in
the future in the name of what will make for a better
America.
Sincerely yours,
Douglas P. Metzger

President George Bush
The White House
Washington, DC 20500
Dear President Bush,
I appreciate and value living in a country of many freedoms. However,
we also have the responsibility to preserve and maintain these freedoms.
As President, I realize that you are obligated to receive a cross-section of
visitors at the White House that represent varying interests and causes. It
concerns me however, when your guest list becomes the determining factor in
the termination of a valued employee. I am speaking of Doug Wead, an
individual who proved to be profoundly influential in gaining the support of
the evangelical sector during your election campaign in 1988. Mr. Wead even
went so far as to write the book, Man of Integrity which gave his validation
of your character and strong family values.
My concern in this matter involves the reason why Mr. Wead was terminated. It
appears that you terminated Mr. Wead because you felt he was repressing the
freedoms of homosexuals--well, what about Mr. Wead's freedoms? He simply
chose to exercise his freedom in voicing his concerns about White House
invitations being extended to representatives of various homosexual groups?
Mr. Wead, no doubt, was concerned how their presence would affect our country
and the world's view of your support for family values.
President Bush, my grievance involves the termination of a citizen who is
trying to uphold family values that are rapidly diminishing in this country,
and who elected to exercise their right to freedom--to disagree. I know you
are a man dedicated to preserving the freedoms of all people, regardless of
their religious or social preference, and it is for this reason that I hope
this letter will motivate you re-examine what steps you are taking to preserve
these freedoms, including the freedom to believe in the traditional family
structure.
I do hope this request prompts you respond to my letter.
May I remain,
respectfully,
Alan A. Lyon

President George Bush
White House
Washington, DC 20500
WEAD,
Mr. Wead's departure
from the White House
Dear President Bush:
I am a American Christian Voter and I am seriously concerned
about the removal of Mr. Wead from his position with the White
House Staff.
I voted for you in the 1988 elections because of your
conservative stand on the issues. I do not believe a liberal
attitude will help bring this nation or the world, for that
matter, under the moralistic leadership that is required for us
to move forward. Just as loose spending hurts our economy, loose
morality weakens us as a nation.
I understand this is a free country. Everyone has the right to
be who they want to be but, when our political leaders succumb to
pressure from ANY special interest groups at the cost of their
morals, they are rendered ineffective in all matters.
If it is true that this nation "Trusts in God" and is "One Nation
under God," then we indicate that we believe in following his
Word. That Word is, as you know, the Bible. The Bible teaches
us that Sodomy is AGAINST God's word. I believe that "Gays" or
sodomists have rights just as I do and you do. A small child had
the same rights, maybe more, but we don't take their advice just
because they have these rights. We as adults must guide and lead
them. Just as the mentally ill have rights, so do sodomists but
we certainly know better than to believe the mentally ill are
capable of running the nation.
This country was founded by "Men on their Knees." I believe it
is an insult to them and all Americans who have given their
lives, honor and fortunes for this country to remove Mr. Wead
from office because he stood up for what, at one time, were the
morals of you, our president.
Please give this matter old consideration, not "new" liberal
consideration. I pray to God to strengthen you in your resolve
to lead this nation strongly, decisively, and morally.
God Bless.

Dear Mr. Cunningham:
Thank you for your recent letter to the White House regarding
Special Assistant to the President Doug Wead.
Over the years Doug has been a valuable member of the President's
team and has served him faithfully. For several months, however,
Doug had been discussing with a variety of people, and specifically
with me, his decision to leave his White House position to pursue
other avenues. During that period of time, several options were
presented to Doug and discussed.
Ultimately, a mutual decision was made that Doug would end his
tenure here. Both Doug and others here recognize that there have
been rumors and innuendos regarding his decision to leave. None of
these has any basis in truth.
The President has named Ms. Leigh Ann Metzger as Special Assistant
to the President for Public Liaison. Leigh Ann shares your values
and concerns. You will find that she brings a wealth of experience
to the job and will be a valuable addition to our team.
Thank you again for taking the time to write and share your
thoughts with us.

Dear Mr. President,
When I heard about the firing of Doug Wead from your staff
I got pretty upset. I have been a die hard conservative for
years now and have been a loyal Republican. It's things like
the Doug Wead incident that have been trying my loyalty as of
late. It just boils my blood to think of the broke, liberal,
Democrats that are trying to destroy this great country and
they don't even realize what they are doing.
Please make a stand, Mr. President, for the traditional values
that have made this country great!

Dear Mr. Bush,
"The wrong side has won the war"
in the DOUG WEAD issue.
I am infuriated to Know Doug Wead
is gone and David Demarest and
Bobbie Kilberg are still on staff.
If you ask me, I think you need
loyality to your position more than, !
the experience offered by traders.
