Dear Mr. Sununu:
LIANG BO-WEN
Vice-Chairman
A committee called "Chinese-American Committee to Support Most
YUN-MAN LI
Counsel
Favored Nation status to China" was formed in May by a group of
Chinese-American business and community leaders in the U.S.,
JOHN TONG
Executive Secretary
mostly from New York, to enlist support from members of the U.S.
Congress and various concerned circles to support President Bush's
decision to renew MFN status to China. I myself am glad and
honored to be chosen as Chairman of the Board of this committee.
For the past two months, members of this committee have made
efforts to lobby congressmen and senators and to generate public
attention and understanding of this issue in order to urge U.S.
Congress to adopt the President's position. As you know, the
extension of this status to China is of great significance for U.S. -
China relations.
We learned recently that on July 11th, you summoned a meeting of
Chinese-American leaders in this country for a briefing of this issue
and solicited their support for this worthy cause.
I am writing to express our appreciation for your efforts and
contributions on this important issue. I also wish to let you know that
we are working continuously for the success of this legislative action.
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
James Ying

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF LA RAZA
Raul Yzaguirre, President
June 20, 1991
The Honorable John H. Sununu
Chief of Staff
The White House
Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Chief of Staff Sununu:
It gives me great pleasure to invite you to serve as keynote speaker at the Monday, July
15, luncheon as part of the 1991 Annual Conference of the National Council of La Raza
(NCLR), which will be held July 14 - 18, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Houston, Texas.
The National Council of La Raza's Annual Conference is one of the largest Hispanic
events of the year and has become a major forum for bringing together the public, private,
and community sectors to discuss issues of importance to the Hispanic community. Among
the 1990 conference speakers were President George Bush, then-Secretary of Education Lauro
Cavazos, Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Louis Sullivan, and former San
Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros.
NCLR's 1991 conference theme, "Shaping a New America: Our Rights and
Responsibilities," recognizes that the 500-year anniversary of Hispanic presence in the New
World and the beginning of a new century are fast approaching, yet Hispanics remain outside
the mainstream in terms of education, employment, and economic status. The conference
theme highlights the need to assure that Hispanics enter the 21st century as real partners in the
American system -- and we look to national leaders like you to help us create the program
and momentum needed to accomplish this.
We would appreciate your speaking at the Monday, July 15, luncheon. Expected
attendance is 1,200 people and your address should last approximately 15 minutes. We will
do our best to accommodate your schedule and are contacting you now with the hope that the
lead time will be sufficient to make this possible.

Dear Mr. Sununu:
I am pleased and honored to inform you that fiscal year
1990 procurement data reveals a substantial increase in
purchases by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation
from foreign suppliers.
Total purchases from U.S. companies showed a sizable
increase of nearly 40 percent over the year before. Of the
total foreign purchases, 95 percent were from American
suppliers! Such significant increases in our foreign
procurements have come in part through more purchases of
network core equipment and office automation systems for
telephone office operations. Further details are contained
in the enclosed materials.
This is the tenth year since NTT introduced its "open,
fair, non-discriminatory" procurement procedures in 1981,
and during each year since then, NTT's procurements from
U.S. and other foreign firms have steadily increased.
These increases are attributed to the improved ability of
U.S. firms to offer products that meet the needs of both
NTT and NTT customers, their endeavors to upgrade the
quality of their products and, furthermore, their emphasis
on strengthening after-sales service.
In the meantime, NTT has also propelled a number of
procurement promotion activities, such as sponsoring more
than 40 procurement seminars overseas, providing needed
information by meeting directly with U.S. firms and issuing

Dear John:
This is just a short note to let you know that I spoke with
Dan Conway of The Chubb Corporation last week and explained
the difficulties of arranging a meeting now between
yourself and Dean O'Hare, Chairman of The Chubb Corporation
and Bob Vagley, President of The American Insurance
Association.
Dan told me he fully understood. He mentioned he would
stop by to say hello at the President's Dinner, where I
understand Chubb has purchased two tables. He further said
that at your convenience he would enjoy the opportunity to
introduce Messrs. O'Hare and Vagley to you.
I enjoyed seeing you and the family up in Manchester, and
especially appreciated my time with you on April 23rd.
Best Regards,
Bin
