The President said that it was good to hear from President-elect
Perez and thanked him for his message of January 20.
President-elect Perez thanked the President for the call and said
he is off to a good start.
The President said he is looking forward to working with
President-elect Perez and that he is sending the Vice President,
the second highest official in our government to Perez'
inauguration. This signals the importance the President places
on the inauguration.
President-elect Perez said that he is honored that the Vice
President has been designated to represent the President and that
he is looking forward to close cooperation between our two
countries.
The President said that their meeting had gotten them off to a
good start and that he is looking forward to hearing Perez'
thoughts on bilateral issues, Central America and others.
President-elect Perez said that for him, the meeting was
important and encouraging and that he shares the President's
concern over our problems and Central America. He promised to

maintain close contact and will deal with the Vice President on
the issues of Panama and Central America during the inauguration.
The President said that this was very encouraging and that he
looked forward to hearing from the Vice President following his
trip. He then wished Perez the very best for February 2.
President-elect Perez thanked him and assured the President of
his close cooperation.
