The President today announced his intention to nominate Edward
Hurwitz, of the District of Columbia, a Career Member of the
Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, to be
Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of
Kyrgyzstan.
Currently, Mr. Hurwitz serves as Deputy Examiner of the Board of
Examiners for the Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. Prior to
this, he served as Director of the Office of Analysis for the
U.S.S.R. and Eastern Europe at the Department of State,
1988-1991; Counsel General at the American Consulate in
Leningrad, U.S.S.R., 1986-1988; Charge d'Affaires at the American
Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, 1983-1986.
Mr. Hurwitz was graduated from Cornell University (A.B., 1952).
He was born March 21, 1931 in New York, New York. Mr. Hurwitz
served in the United States Army, 1953-1955. He is married, has
two children and resides in Washington, D.C.
