SENATE WIVES LUNCHEON
THE WHITE HOUSE
MAY 3, 1976
1.
GOOD AFTERNOON.
I AM JUST DELIGHTED
THAT so MANY OF YOU
COULD MAKE OUR ANNUAL LUNCHEON TODAY.
2
THIS LUNCHEON IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE EVENTS,
BECAUSE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH
I ENJOY EACH AND EVERY OPPORTUNITY
FOR US TO GET TOGETHER.
3
I CERTAINLY APPRECIATED
THE SENATE WIVES LUNCHEON AT THE CAPITOL
AND THE LOVELY QUILT
WHICH YOU PRESENTED TO ME.
4
THE ANTIQUE DOLLS ON THE TABLES
ARE so UNIQUE
AND REMIND ME OF THE DOLLS
I COLLECTED FOR SUSAN.
5
ONE OF MY FAVORITES AND HERS
WAS A SHIRLEY TEMPLE DOLL FROM GRAMMA FORD
BECAUSE EACH OF HER DRESSES
MATCHED SUSAN'S WARDROBE.
6
WHEN I SAW THAT BEAUTIFUL JENNY LIND DOLL,
I WAS TRULY SURPRISED
TO REALIZE HOW MANY YEARS
THE CUSTOM OF NAMING A DOLL
FOR A FAMOUS PERSON GOES BACK.
7
PERHAPS SOME OF THESE DOLLS
HAVE ALSO BROUGHT BACK
HAPPY MEMORIES FOR YOU.
8
THE JEFFERSON CUPS BY YOUR PLACES
WITH THE BEGONIA PLANTS
ARE FAVORS FOR YOU TO TAKE HOME.
IF YOU RECALL LAST YEAR,
EVERYONE RECEIVED A JEFFERSON CUP,
9
AND I THOUGHT,
YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE
AS A MEMENTO OF THIS OCCASION.
PERHAPS MANY OF YOU
HAVE A COLLECTION AS I DO.
10
I CERTAINLY WANT TO THANK
EACH OF YOU AGAIN FOR COMING TODAY.
I KNOW IT'S A BUSY TIME
FOR ALL OF YOU,
AND I'M JUST GLAD
THIS GIVES US ANOTHER CHANCE TO VISIT.
THESE VISITS ARE REALLY
TOO FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.
II
I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU
TO COME UPSTAIRS
AND SEE THE FAMILY QUARTERS
I'M SURE YOU WOULD ENJOY
SOME OF THE SPECIAL ROOMS
ON THOSE FLOORS.
PLEASE COME UP.
