Miguel Solano Lopez was born on May 16, 1914. Γe
served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Paraguayan Army during
the early 1930's. In 1945 he was Director of Information
and Culture. In 1950 he entered the Ministry of Foreign
Relations and served in a variety of capacities, including
that of Director of International Organizations. On
December 27, 1956 he was appointed Alternate Permanent
Representative to the United Nations with the rank of
Minister Counselor. On February 22, 1967, he was appointed
Permanent Representative with the rank of Ambassador.
Ambassador Solano has lived in the United States
since 1965; he attended the UN General Assembly in 1955
and every session since then.
He is married to the former Rosa Casco and is the
father of three children. He speaks French and English.
Ambassador Solano is the grandson of famous
Paraguayan ruler, Francisco Solano Lopez.
He arrived in Washington on January 2, 1973.

Mrs. Schnyder mentioned that Ambassador Schnyder followed

The Schnyders were married after they met in London at
the beginning of World War II. After the war, they
were stationed in Moscow. There they knew the Foy Kohlers
and the Frederick Reinhardts well.
Mrs. Schnyder is a ready conversationalist, though
(in Mrs. Rusk's opinion) a bit tense.
Interests: Nursing (intensified because of double cataracts),
Israel, Capitol Speakers Club, and the Inter-
national refugee experience.
Mrs. Schnyder had tea with Mrs. Johnson, along with other
new Ambassadors' wives, on December 14, 1966.

the now defunct Federal Government of the West
Indies. From 1944-46 he served in the British
Army's South Caribbean Forces. In 1959 he began
his diplomatic career, being assigned first to
