GERALD R. FORD
HOUSE REPUBLICAN LEADER
RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON
Kent County high school leaders are receiving invitat ions
from Rep. Gerald R. Ford (R-Mich) to attend a Teen-Age Republican (TAR)
Leadership conference Nov. 13 in Grand Rapids.
The House Republican Leader is sending personal letters to some 250
high school students inviting them to take part in the conference at
the Pantlind Hotel.
Rep. Robert P. Griffin (R-Mich) is to give the keynote speech
during the three-hour session.
The conference scheduled to start at 1 p.m, is designed to interest
high school leaders in developing TAR clubs in their schools. Following
the conference, teen-agers will be guests at a reception attended by
County officials, State legislators, and GOP officials,
In his letters of invitation, Ford said, "The Republican Party
nation-wide is placing increased emphasis on programs that involve
young people.
"We believe that a high school student who becomes active in a
major political party takes a giant step toward accepting his responsibilities
as a citizen. There can be no finer citizenship training than active
participation in a political party."
The TAR Leadership Conference was planned by the recently-formed
12-member TAR Advisory Council. Paul Yhouse of East Grand Rapids high
school is chairman.
