Digitized from Box D15 of The Ford Congressional Papers: Press Secretary and Speech File at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library Speeches Remarks of Rep. Gerald R. Ford, Jr. February 9, 1959 Mr. Speaker: With the recent revelation that the United States C-130 transport was deliberately shot down over Soviet Armenia near the Turldish border, the visit of Deputy Premier Anastas Mikoyan will have to be re-evaluated. Our own State Department, in re- leasing the transcript of the intercepted radio conversation among Soviet fighter pilots who attacked the unarmed American Transport plane last September, indirectly accused Mikoyan of lying about the incident. In light of these revelations, therefore, I am pleased to include in my remarks two editorials from "The Western Michigan Catholic" published at Grand Rapids. Both editorials are by Monsignor Joseph C. Walen, The first entitled "Why Salaams to Mikoyan?" appeared on January 15, 1959; and the second, "Impertinent Guest" was published on January 22nd, ######## FORD is LIBRARY 03RALD Remarks of Rep.
