MEMORANDUM
TO:
Paul Miltich
FROM:
Gordon Vander Till
IN RE:
Jerry Ford Newsletter of the Air
This past Friday evening Mr. Ford and I were in St. Johns for a Lincoln
Day speech. As you know, St. Johns is the county seat of Clinton County where
Mr. Ford has two townships.
After the dinner we got to talking with the newsman and learned that there
is a radio station in St. Johns and Mr. Ford mentioned that he possibly wanted to
consider sending his weekly five minute public service tape to the station. The
following information is provided you in case he would so decide.
WRBJ AM - P.O. Box 320, St. Johns, Michigan 48879, phone (517) 2247911
Ditmer Broadcasting Co., Robert D. Ditmer, President and General Manager. Arthur
A. Wainwright Jr., Station Manager.
I guess that you probably have added by now WPLB AM & FM in Greenville and
WBCH AM & FM in Hastings. Also, you might wish to consider WCER AM & FM in
Charlotte. If you would like additional information on them, please feel free
to call.

Dear Joe,
During this last years as in previous years, you were kind
enough to make use of five-minute radio tapes which I prepared
and sent to you each week.
Your consideration in giving us five minutes on the air each
week in the past has been greatly appreciated. May I continue
to send you these tapes weekly during the current session of
Congress beginning with April 28th? Enclosed is a self-addressed
card for your reply.
Once again this year the tapes will be made each Wednesday and
sent out that day. Each week I will enclose a self-addressed
envelope for the return of the tape.
I hope that you can make use of this weekly report during the
coming months.
Warmest personal regards.

Subject: Relocation of the House Recording Studio
Dear Congressman:
At a meeting of the Committee on the House

Recording Studio, held January 31, 1967, authorization
was given for the facility to move to the new quarters
in Room B-31 Rayburn House Office Building, during
the week-end of February 11 and 12.
In compliance with instructions received from
the Committee, I have authorized the Studio to be closed
on Friday, February 10, through Monday, February 13, to
allow enough time to move the recording equipment, Motion
Picture sets, and other items. The Studio will be open
for regular business on Tuesday, February 14, on a slightly
limited schedule.
I, and the personnel in the Recording Studio
will make every effort not to inconvenience you during
this period of transition. Your patience with us during
the next few weeks will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Mr. Kuiper:
I see no reason why you should grant equal time to Mr. Wabeke
in connection with my report to my constituents concerning
prayer in the public schools.
If you were to grant equal time to Mr. Wabeke in this instance,
you would be opening WFUR up to demands for equal time from any
number of private citizens every time they happen to disagree
with sone view expressed in my radio report to my constituents.
I do not think that makes sense, nor is there any justification
for it.
My radio report to my constituents is Just that-a report of
congressional actions and my own personal views. There is no
intention to provoke or invite debate on the issues involved,
and there certainly is no obligation on the part of the stateons
airing the report to grant equal time to listeners.
Should you, on your own initiative, decide to grant equal time
to Mr. Wabeke, that is your own decision. However, my recom-
mendation is that you politely decline for the reasons I have
stated.

Dear Jerry:
One day this weekend I caught your "Congressman's Report"
radio program.
Were you aware that the quality is poor? The program differed
significantly from the program before and after. Yours was
very bassy. Hard to listen to, and hard to understand. I'd
say most people wouldn't be able to follow it without turning
up the volume.
Incidentally, this is something that has been true for a long
time - only this time it was more pronounced.
I don't know what conditions it is recorded under, or what
equipment you record it on, but something isn't right.
Just thought you might like to know. When I listen to my
Congressman, I'd like to have him come across clean, clear,
and crisp.
