As you are probably aware, there has been proposed a
second evacuation of American citizens from Lebanon.
I wanted you to be aware the President has directed this
offer of evacuation be announced in Lebanon tonight at midnight. our time
Present plans provide for a seaborne operation conducted

COMMENTS: Thanked us for the information

COMMENTS: Wanted to know the number of persons we
expected to evacuate. Responded at 8:30 that 531
persons had registered, of this total 160 were
Americans. Also stated that actual figures were
difficult to ascertain, but in the final analysis, it
was anticipated that 500 persons would be evacuated,
which would include 140 Americans. Was asked whether
we anticipate weapon fire - responded that we could not
be certain but we were hopeful that evacuation would
occur without gun fire.

DATE AND TIME: July 26; 6:30 p.m. placed call and was
informed that Cederberg would call back during the
evening. Cederberg did not return call during
evening of July 26, however, he returned my call at
9 a. m. on July 27. At 9:30 a. m. on July 27, I

of July 26.

and Senate Leadership which tre had made and I offered to
send him copies of our reports on the same.
