CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR PRESS CORPS
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19
- 1 -
MEMBERS AND GUESTS OF THE WHITE HOUSE PRESS CORPS --
SURVIVORS OF THE CHINA TRIP -- AND VAIL VOLUNTEERS --
WELCOME TO THE WHITE HOUSE.
- 2 -
AT THIS VERY WARM AND HAPPY TIME OF THE YEAR --
AND THIS IS FOR DEEP BACKGROUND ONLY
--
-
YOU CAN QUOTE A SENIOR
WHITE HOUSE OFFICIAL -- AND HIS WIFE BETTY
-
AS WISHING
YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND AS MY FOLLOW-UP WISH
...
-- A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR AS WELL.
- 3 -
WE WERE TRYING TO THINK UP WAYS TO MAKE THIS PARTY AS
CHRISTMASY AS POSSIBLE.
THERE'S THE TREE IN THE BLUE ROOM,
THE HOLLY AND THE MISTLETOE -- AND AS ONE MORE SYMBOL OF
CHRISTMAS, WE WERE EVEN GOING TO HAVE WITH US THAT JOLLY GENT WHO
GOES AROUND THE ENTIRE WORLD IN ONE NIGHT.
UNFORTUNATELY,
HENRY KISSINGER COULDN'T MAKE IT.
- 4 -
BETTY AND I DO WANT YOU TO RELAX AND ENJOY YOURSELVES.
THERE IS MUSIC, DANCING, AND PLENTY OF FOOD AND REFRESHMENT.
YOU REMEMBER AT A RECENT PRESS CONFERENCE I TOLD
WALT RODGERS NOT TO MAKE A SPEECH -- so TONIGHT I'M GOING TO FOLLOW
MY OWN ADVICE.
- 5 -
MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, AND LET'S ALL MAKE
1976 THE BEST NEW YEAR WE'VE EVER HAD.
