Digitized from Box 36 of President's Speeches and Statements: Reading Copies at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN TALKING POINTS: OPENING OF PRESS CONFERENCE I have two announcements to make this afternoon before responding to your questions: -- First, I will be sending a special message to the Congress later this week setting forth my major legislative priorities for the remainder of the year. There are many different areas -- taxes, energy, crime, general revenue sharing, and others -- where vigorous Con- gressional action is needed before adjournment if the Congress is to honor its commitments to the American people. -- Second, I am sending to the Congress today a proposal that would further advance our efforts to restore public trust in the integrity of all three branches of the Federal Government -- Executive, Congressional and Legislative. I am determined, as I am sure that the Congress is, to ensure that those who have the privilege of serving in public office are fully accountable to the public for their behavior in that office. 2. I understand that you already have a copy of my letter to the President of the Senate on this matter. Now I will be happy to answer your questions.
