FORD SAID HIS WIFE BETTY PROBABLY WOULD ASK HIM TO REPLACE DOUGLAS
ON THE SUPREME COURT WITH A WOMAN.
IN A BRIEF EXCHANGE WITH REPORTERS, FORD WAS ASKED IF HE WOULD
CONSIDER A WOMAN AS REPLACEMENT.
"I JUST GOT THE RESIGNATION," FORD SAID, THEN ADDED "I"LL PROBABLY

ON A SECOND LIST OF POTENTIAL SUPREME COURT NOMINEES SENT TO THE
AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION FOR STUDY, IT WAS REPORTED TODAY.
BETTY FORD SAID, MEANWHILE, THAT PRESIDENT FORD IS NOT GIVING HER
ANY CLUES ON WHO HE IS CONSIDERING TO REPLACE RETIRED JUSTICE WILLIAM
0. DOUGLAS.
"HE'S VERY UNREVEALING," MRS. FORD SAID WEDNESDAY OF HER EFFORTS
TO GET A WOMAN ON THE COURT.
THE WASHINGTON POST REPORTED TODAY HUD SECRETARY CARLA HILLS AND
U.S. DISTRICT COURT JUDGE CORNELIA KENNEDY OF DETROIT WERE ON THE NEW
LIST OF NAMES SUBMITTED TO THE ABA COMMITTEE ON THE FEDERAL JUDICIARY
TUESDAY BY ATTORNEY GENERAL EDWARD LEVI.
THE ABA HAS ALREADY SUBMITTED INFORMAL RECOMMENDATIONS FROM AN
EARLIER LIST OF NAMES PROVIDED BY THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT.
