RONALD REAGAN ON HIS PERSONAL FINANCES
During my last year as Governor, California law provided
for public filing of Statements of Economic Interests. On
January 30, 1975, I filed such a Statement covering the period
April 1, 1974 through January 6, 1975, the conclusion of my
second term as Governor.
That Statement is substantially correct today, except that
I no longer have any interests in the Yearling Row Ranch or
the Reagan Cattle Co.
My last tax returns for the five years 1970 through 1974 show
federal and state income taxes and local property taxes totaling
$130,788.00, an average $26,157.00 per year. My salary as
Governor during those years totaled $240,460.00, an average
of $48,092.00.
Since leaving office, I have placed such assets as I have
in a blind trust. The trust will continue at least for the
duration of the time I am a candidate and under its terms I
can neither inquire of the trustees' action, nor can they
inform me of their actions. The trustees may deal with these
assets as they see fit without my permission. The trustees
are Justin Dart, William French Smith and William Wilson.

SAMPLE STATEMENT
John Q. Smith is a candidate for Governor of California He files his nomination papers on March 1, 1974 and his
Statement of Economic Interests will cover the period from March 1, 1973, through February 28, 1974 (See Secretary
of State's information manual section V.) Alter studying the information manual, Smith concludes that has economic
interests which De is required to disclose are as follows:
1. He is employed be General Widgets. Inc., a company located in Los Angeles, and has received $20,000 in salary
during the period. (See samples of Schedules 716-C and 716-D.)
2. He also owns $30,000 worth or stock in General Widgets, Inc., and has received dividends of $2,000 during the
period. (See samples of Schedules 716-A and 716-C.)
3. Ile owned an interest in an office building in Sacramento, but he sold his entire interest in the property for $15,000
on July 1, 1973. (See sample of Schedule 716-B.)
4. He received an original painting from John Doe, a friend of his who is an artist, as a Christmas present. The painting
is worth $500. (See sample of Schedule 716-C.)
Smith files Form 716 on March 1. 1974, the same date that he files his nomination papers. On page 1 he states his full
name on line 1. writes "Governor" on line 2 and checks the box indicating it is a state office. He checks the second box in
line 3, indicating he is filing Form 716 as a candidate, and he fills in the dates March 1, 1973 and February 28, 1974
on line 4. He signs his name and indicates the date and place of his signature. He fills out the schedules on pages 2

Los Angeles
Sharpened attacks by Ronald Reagan on President Ford here raise
doubt about the prospects of Republican Party unity after the August
convention, according to expert observers.
The former California Governor now is taking aim at Mr. Ford for "a
developing pattern of secrecy" in foreign policy Mr. Reagan sharply
criticizes the President and his administration for alleged "secret nego-
tiations" with Fidel Castro's Cuba, with Hanoi (in trying to normalize
relations), and over the Panama Canal.
Up to recently, Mr. Reagan's attacks on the administration were
broadly couched and not directly focused on Mr. Ford. But not any
more
The GOP challenger appears to be zeroing in on the President's al-
leged ineffectiveness overseas. Mr. Reagan hints that if present policies
are continued, U.S. defenses will be weakened and the nation will be
vulnerable to outside influences.
Among those who privately admit that this line of attack is in-
flammatory and will likely make intraparty conciliation virtually impos-
