THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
September 29, 1976
MEMORANDUM FOR:
MIKE DUVAL
FROM:
DICK CHENEY
D
In connection with preparation for the third debate, I want you to
pull together some data that shows the increase in the work force
over the last ten years.
Specifically, it should be broken down to show the total increase
in working age population over ten years, the total increase in
the labor force, the total increase in men in the labor force and
the total increase in women in the labor force. I'm told that if
you do it on a percentage basis, you'll find that while the labor
force increase some 19% over that period of time, women in the
work force increased 47% or something there abouts.
I'm sure CEA can pull this together fast, and we may be able to
use it in part to explain why the unemployment rate is higher today.

Mike, attached is a note from the President. This is just a
reminder that he wants Carter's views on defense spending
cuts on a single sheet of paper citing the various levels he
wants to cut by date.
