NOTICE TO THE PRESS
The President has signed H.R. 16857 - Lease and transfer of tobacco
allotments or quotas, North Carolina which provides for the lease and
transfer of tobacco allotments or quotas for 1974 in certain areas of
North Carolina.
Under present law, owners or operators of farms may lease and
transfer their acreage-poundage marketing quotas or allotments for
flue-cured tobacco to other farms in the same county.
For 1974 only, H.R. 16857 will amend the law cited above to allow
the owners or operators of farms in Craven, Carteret, and Jones
Counties, North Carolina, to lease any owner or operator in the same
county or nearby counties within the State who have farms having a
current tobacco allotment or quota of the same kind.
