Digitized from Box 13 of the White House Press Releases at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library JULY 12, 1975 POOL REPORT PALMER HOUSE TO MCCORMICK PLACE TC TRAVERSE CITY : On State Street outside the hotel, there were at least 2, 000 people on both sides of the street waiting for Ford. The President and Mrs. Ford came out the hotel entrance to applause and shouts of "come over here. " Ford worked the crowd for a few minutes but didn't cover the whole street. The motorcade moved about three miles to McCormick Place. There were a few Cyprus signs outside the hall but couldn't make out what the point was. When the President entered, Dr. Benjamin Alexander, the President of Chicago State, introduced him to 22 honor graduates, campus leaders etc. Mrs. Ford, dressed in a black dress with white polka dots, was introduced to the graduates by Mrs. Alexander. Ford then moved down a corridor where all the graduates were waiting for the processional. There were handshakes and congratulations. After the pool left the area (30 minutes later) Greener said the President made an unscheduled 10-minute trip back into the corridor to shake more hands and chat with the students. For the remainder of the time, he was in a room with faculty members. # # # AIR FORCE ONE FROM O'HARE TO TRAVERSE CITY: Air Force One wheels up from O'Hare at just before 3:00 p.m. EDT. Nessen came back and said early next week President would be sending to Congress his plan on decontrol of old oil and there would be more to it than a monthly timetable of phased out controls. There will be meetings Monday at the White House to discuss the proposal. There will be other elements besides the monthly timetable. # # # JOHN MASHEK U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT
