Ford Presidential Library FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 24, 1975 Office of the White House Press Secretary THE WHITE HOUSE The President today announced his intention to nominate Heward D. Tipton, of Coronado, California, to be Administrator of the National Fire Prevention and Control Administration of the Department of Commerce. This is a new position created by Public Law 93-498 of October 29, 1974. Since 1974, Mr. Tipton has been Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the County of San Diego, California. From 1973-74 he was Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the Department of Transportation. He was Executive Director of the President's National Commission on Fire Prevention and Control from 1971 to 1973. From 1969 to 1971 he was Vice President and General Manager of Lampman and Associates of Pomona, California. In 1962, Mr. Tipton became City Manager of the City of Glendora, California. From 1959 to 1962 he had served as Assistant to the City Manager of Duarte and Glendora, California. Mr. Tipton was born on July 17, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, and received his B.A. degree from the University of Redlands in 1958. He returned to school and received his M.P. A. degree from the University of Southern California in 1969. Mr. Tipton is married to the former Nancy Wilson and they have three children. # # #
