BY THE PRESIDENT
AT BOEING FIELD
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
SEPTEMBER 4, 1975
Thank you, Governor Evans. It's really a great pleasure for me to be
here in Seattle today. I appreciate your very warm welcome.
In 26 years of public life, I've travelled to hundreds of cities in all 50
states and in many foreign countries. I've enjoyed visiting them all.
I've learned a lot about America -- and about the world.
But I must say that Seattle is one of the most beautiful, dynamic and friendly
cities I have ever visited and I intend to learn from my visit. I'm happy
to be here.
I'm especially happy to be at Boeing Field in this great center of America's
aerospace industry. Some of the most important work in this country is
done at Boeing -- and done well -- and I commend you who are part of that
effort.
Seattle and the State of Washington and the Great Pacific Northwest -- all
have played a major role in making America the strong, secure, progressive
Nation it is today.
And you will play a major role in the exciting future of America -- a future
dedicated to peace, to prosperity and to a better life for all Americans.
Your role in helping us reach these goals is not limited to the great
industrial and commercial and cultural assets of this city. Your
importance is measured most of all in your pioneering spirit, in your
independence of thought and action and in your ability to reach beyond
conventional wisdom to the bold frontier of innovation and discovery.
Again, thank you for your very gracious welcome. I know I will enjoy
this brief but very worthwhile visit to the City of Seattle and the State
of V ashington.
