THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today announced his intention to nominate Fred O. Pinkham,
of Old Greenwich, Connecticut, to be Assistant Administrator of the Agency
for International Development. His ærea of responsibility will be Population
and Humanitarian Assistance. He will succeed Jarold A. Kieffer who re-
signed effective April 1, 1975. Mr. Pinkham has been Vice President and
co-founder of the World Business Council in New York since 1970.
Mr. Pinkham was born on June 16, 1920, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and received
his A.B. degree from Kalamazoo College in 1942. He attended Stanford
University and received his M.A. in 1947 and his ED. D. degree in 1950. He
served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945.
In 1955, Mr. Pinkham became President of Ripon College after having served
as Executive Director of the National Commission on Accrediting beginning
in 1951. From 1966 to 1971, he directed educational research and evaluation
for the Yardstick Project and from 1967 to 1971, he also was Vice President
and Dire ctor for Management of the Western Publishing Company in New York.
He was a Consultant to the Greater Hartford Process, Educational Management
Services and the Educational Records Bureau from 1971 to 1973. During 1973-
1974, he was President of the Capital Higher Education Service in Hartford,
Connecticut.
Mr. Pinkham is married to the former Helen Kostia of Detroit, Michigan.
They have one daughter and two sons.
