THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today announced his intention to nominate Anthony D. Marshall,
of New York, New York, to be Ambassador to the Republic of Seychelles. The
Republic of Seychelles will attain its independence on June 29, 1976. Mr. Mar-
shall has been the Ambassador to the Republic of Kenya since 1974, and will
serve concurrently in this new position.
Born on May 30, 1924, in New York, New York, Mr. Marshall received his
A.B. degree from Brown University in 1950. He served in the United States
Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946.
In 1950, Mr. Marshall became an Intelligence Analyst with the Department of
State. He was a limited partner with the firm of Butler, Herrick and Marshall
in New York during 1959 to 1960. From 1959 to 1969, he was President of the
African Research and Development Company, Incorporated, prior to becoming
Chairman of the Board of Directors of NIDOCO, Limited, Lagos, Nigeria. He
was a limited partner in Tucker Anthony and R. L. Day, of New York from
1963 to 1969.
Mr. Marshall was appointed as Ambassador to the Malagasy Republic in 1969
and became Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago in 1972, prior to his appointment
to the Republic of Kenya.
Mr. Marshall is married to the former Thelma Hoegnell and they have two sons.
They reside in Nairobi, Kenya.
