THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today announced his intention to nominate Jack B. Olson,
of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, to be Ambassador to the Commonwealth
of the Bahamas. He will succeed Seymour Weiss who is resigning.
Mr. Olson has been manager of the Olson Boat Company and he served
as Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin during 1963-64 and from 1967 to 1970.
Born on August 29, 1920, in Kilbourn (presently Wisconsin Dells),
Wisconsin, Mr. Olson received his B.S. degree from Western Michigan
University in Kalamazoo in 1942. From 1942 to 1946, he served in the
United States Naval Reserve.
After serving as Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin, Mr. Olson was a
candidate for Governor in 1970. He was Director of the Bureau of
Business Research at the University of Hawaii in 1961. He was a member
of the President's Air Quality Control Advisory Board from 1970 to 1973.
Mr. Olson is married to the former Eleanor Lang and they have two children.
