Farmingdale, New York, as the Peter J. Ganci, Jr. Post Office Building.

H.R. 5336 designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 380 Main
Street in Farmingdale, New York, as the "Peter J. Ganci, Jr. Post Office Building".
Chief Ganci was Chief of the New York City Fire Department. He served in the Fire
Department for 33 years and died on September 11, 2001, in the World Trade Center attacks.
After barely escaping from the collapse of the first tower, Chief Ganci went into the second
tower to work with his men and died when the second tower collapsed. He was 54 years old.
H.R. 5336 passed the House by voice vote and the Senate by unanimous consent.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of
the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. DESIGNATION.
The facility of the United States Postal Service located at
380 Main Street in Farmingdale, New York, shall be known and
designated as the "Peter J. Ganci, Jr. Post Office Building".
SEC. 2. REFERENCES.
Any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper,
or other record of the United States to the facility referred to
in section 1 shall be deemed to be a reference to the "Peter J.
Ganci, Jr. Post Office Building".

Purpose of Legislation. These bills would honor numerous individuals, including
persons killed as the result of terrorist attacks on the United States, local and national
political figures, famous vocalists, and a letter carrier killed on his route by an assailant,
through the honorary designation of postal facilities.

Position of the Postal Service. The Postal Service defers to Congress
concerning the honorary designation of postal buildings for notable public figures.
3.
Timing. No recommendation.

Cost or Savings, No information.
5.
Recommendation Concerning Presidential Action. The Postal Service does not
object to approval of these bills by the President.
