THE WHITE HOUSE, WASHINGTON. November 30, 1905. The Secretary of the Interior: These two telegrams are very important. There must be no slip-up in this Narregan matter. I suggest that they be immediately repeated to Newhausen and your other informants, and that they be told that we can not tolerate any miscarriage of justice in this case and that they must be absolutely certain of their facts. If I should appoint Lawrence and find that the charges against Narregan should be baseless, I should at once remove Lawrence and appoint Narregan in his place. Thurdore Roosevell Enclosures
