Davis,\nGainesville, Tex.\nDear Sir; ;-\nI received word last night that the proposition we\nsubmitted has been turned down by the Department at Washington.\nOur enemies fortified themselves with a few ponies and went out\nand gathered up about 350 head of Capt. Morris' cattle out of a\nbunch of one thousand, north of town and drove them a short\ndistance, when we replevied them. We were delayed a little bit\nin getting out the papers on account of the Clerk not being here\nand having to wire him to have papers issued; but they were\npromptly replevied and turned over to Capt. Morris They in-\nformed us, however, that they were going to take another bunch\nin the morning and we have already made another bond to file suit\nin the morning to take them. Capt Morris seems to be in very\ngood spirits and I think we will get along all right.\nI have had our proposition published in both daily pa-\npers here, and I herewith send you copy of same in order that\nyou may have it published in such papers as you may desire.\nI believe our clients will stay with us now.\nI received your letter in reference to your clients\ndown there and note the contents. I will keep you posted in"
