(COPY) JUNCTION CITY, KANSAS, March 4, 1902. Mr. William Loeb, Jr. Dear Sir: I am in receipt of your letter of the 3d instant, and will hasten to reply. Will say I went to Fort Riley, Kansas, and seen the Post Commander, and he did not know who appointed the Range Riders, and sent me to the post quartermaster, Capt. Cross, and he told me the appointment was made by the Secretary of War, and he also told me he hadn't seen the Range Rider for some time, as the Range Rider is sick; and I also will say that my physical condition is all right for rough range riding, as I am a good rider and a sober man. I would like very much to get this job as I feel that I can fill the place all right I truly hope the President will see that my favor asked for is granted, and will always feel indebted to both the President and yourself, Mr. Loeb, for your most kindness to me. Hoping everything will be in my favor, I will close. Very truly yours, Ex-sergeant JERRY F. LEE. Junction City, Kansas.
