BUTLER MANUFACTURING COMPANY
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
E.E. NORQUIST
PRESIDENT
July 13, 1932
Hon. Harry S. Truman
219 North Delaware
Independence, Missouri
Dear Judge:
I am enclosing a copy of letter I have
just written Mr. Phares, Chairman of the Missouri
State Highway Commission at Maryville, Missouri,
which I hope you will take time to read. I know
you are on the other side of the ticket and I
perhaps should not bother you with this matter,
but think it well to inform you of the existing
conditions.
I think that we are justified in making
this complaint to the State Highway Commission
as I think they have been very unfair in awarding
the contract to an out-of-state concern when our
bid was lower. I have sent a copy of my letter to
Mr. Phares to several of my friends, and hope to
get some relief in the matter.
I also wish to call your attention to
the article by Frank Ennis on the cover of the July
12 issue of the Kansas Citian. Mr. Ennis happens
to be on the Governing Board of the Boys Hotel,
which installed one of our stokers last year and
vouch for its wonderful performance. We do not
have to take a back seat to any one in the stoker
game.
If you have any comments to make or can
assist us in any way without injuring yourself,
we will surely appreciate it. Would you suggest
that we write the other State Commissions. You
probably know them and are familiar with proper
course to pursue than we are.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely
EEN/LM
E. E. Norquist
