MR. MUDDHY: Hoey Sex Ser. Inc. -T1 Roberta Barrows says Sen. Hoey has not asked for an appointment with the President -- except that he wanted an appointment for a man who wishes to invite the President to visit some college. ld 6-30-50 THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON June 30, 1950. MR. MURPHY: Col. Mara says Sen. Hoey is planning to ask the President some day next week for an appointment to come down and ask for the records on homosexuals. Sen. Hoey's investigators have visited all of the Government agencies and have been formally refused the files. They already have the Metropolitan Police files, including all the Blick papers (Lt. Glick, head of Vice Squad). We don't know what Hoey's attitude is -- whether he is being just a dupe of the Republicans --- or whether the Republican group is working up a very sordid smear campaign to the effect that the President is protecting the homos. Col. Mara thought you might want to be thinking about whether it would do more damage to withhold the records than to let them have access to them, inasmuch as they already have the police files. & Telled to Col. ld Mara today 2 game him The facls on This, including our Talk, with Lea. Haey S.J.S. 7/6/50
