Mass Meeting:
The question arose as to the possibility of a mass meeting at
Madison Square Garden, and Mr. Oram reported that he had been
told there were no available dates within the next three months.
The Chairman agreed to assist in trying to secure a date some
time in January or February.
Congressional Hearings:
The Committee discussed the question of appearances before
Congress, and it was agreed that this could be useful and it
should be arranged at the appropriate time, in consultation
with the Committee Chairmen and Government departments concerned.
Additions to the Executive Committee and the National Council:
It was agreed that Mrs. Wendell Willkie and Mr. William L.
Clayton would be invited to become members of the Executive
Committee, and the Committee discussed the possibility of
adding other members from the South and Midwest, but no
further names were agreed upon.
The Executive Director and the Fund Campaign Director were
also authorized to send additional invitations to business
and civic leaders to join the National Council.
Committee Publications:
The Executive Director reported that the Washington Post sup-
plement and the.reprint.of Mr. Stimson's article would soon be
available for distribution, and that he thought one of the first
additional things to be prepared should be a small pamphlet
explaining the organization and purposes of the Committee. He
also expressed the belief that a question and answer booklet
and other popular material should be prepared as quickly as
possible. The Committee agreed in general to this program.
