In a telephone conversation with
Mr. Forrestal over the weekend the Secretary
told Forrestal that Senator Vandenberg had
said the ECA hearings would develop the
question as to military assistance. Vandenberg
was told by the Secretary that they could not
get into details, but might be able to get a
top monetary figure.
Vandenberg seemed to think this would
probably be satisfactory. Forrestal was told
this and will develop an appropriate top figure.
