    "ocrText": "RESTRICTED\n57\nDEPARTMENT OF STATE\n593\nMemorandum of Conversation\nDATE:\nMarch 1, 1949.\nSUBJECT:\nCourtesy Call by Ambassador of Ceylon\nPARTICIPANTS:\nSecretary\nAmbassador of Ceylon\nCOPIES TO:\n1-1493\nHis Excelleney G. c. s. Gorea, Ambassador of deylon,\nealled at 3:30 today to pay his respects. The Ambassador\nexplained that, owing to his absence from Washington on\nofficial business in London, he was unable to attend the\nreception for the Diplomatic Corps at Blair House on\nJanuary 24.\nI asked whether this was not Mrs. Corea's first visit\nto Washington, to which the Ambassador replied affirma-\ntively. I then introduced the subject of our mutual\ninterests in the legal profession and in public service.\nIn anawer to the Ambasssdor's question as to whether\nI had ever visited in Ceylon or India, I observed that\nprior to my appointment as Secretary I had contemplated\nmaking a trip to that part of the world on behalf of some\nof my cliente who had intereste there but that my appoint-\nment had forestalled this possibility. The Ambassador\nreplied that although 1 now have only one client, the in-\ntereste of that one client in the area might justify such\na trip.\nIn answer to sone other questions put by the Ambassador,\nI made a few general comments on the manner in which a\ncase\nDECLASSIFIED\nwho ity E.O. 10501"
