and RECORDS OFFICER 1003 March 30, 1949 Congressman King of California called this afternoon to speak to the Secretary. In the Secretary's absence, he spoke with me. Mr. King indicated that he had been appointed by the California Delegation to chair a sub-committee which is investigating the present quota restrictions on United States motion pictures in England. Mr. King said that Mr. Webb was seeing Mr. Eric Johnston tomorrow on this matter and that he hoped to have a word with Mr. Acheson after Mr. Webb had seen Mr. Johnston. He mentioned the fossibility of a large group of the California Delegation meeting to see Mr. Acheson later on the problem, but wanted initially an appointment for himself alone. I told Congressman King that the Secretary's calendar was extremely full for the next several days and asked if the matter could wait until next week. He said that would be satisfactory and 1 agreed to try to set up an appointment about Wednesday of next week. I promised to call him back within the next day or two and confirm the appointment. I also agreed to let Mr. Webb know of Congressman King's interest in the matter. LDBattle S:LDB:DHM
