S/S:
Mr. Frank Pace called the Secretary this afternoon
following the meeting in Mr. Pace's office regarding cuts
in the Department of the Army's budget. Mr. Pace said
that he recognized the need for speed in this matter and
that after thinking it over, he was willing to raise the
budget from $950 million to one billion. He indicated
he felt this was as much as he could possibly increase
the item.
