SUMMARY MEMORANDUM OF TELEPHONE CONVERSATION
Participants:
Secretary of Defense Johnson
Mr. Acheson
Secretary Johnson called to say that he had a note that
Secretary Acheson was looking for à couple of papers. Secretary
Johnson said that all he gave them was the message of MacArthur
to Eaton as Chairman of the House Committee and a paraphrase of
4 or 5 paragraphs which reaffirms what he says in the first message.
Secretary Acheson asked if that was all that they had in their files.
Secretary Johnson said that it was his belief that our working staff
had copies of the messages. He said he was sending over to us
now copies of the old message of MacArthur to Eaton (March 1948)
and then the reference of November 1948 (which wasn't given in its
entirety).
