259 CORFIDENTIAL September 7, 1950 MEMORANDUM OF CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT . s ARCHIVES *MATIONAL SERVICE RECORDS AND Item No. 6 (For limited distribution: To Messrs. Barrett and Hickerson, only.) Mrs. Roosevelt has recommended to the President that on UN Day arrangements should be made for a general period of prayer, and that this should be inaugurated by the President, who should have at the White House a Catholic Priest, a Protestant minister, and a Rabbi, to read over the VOA a prayer which has been agreed upon. The President approves of the idea of a period of prayer throughout the world. He is not favorably inclined toward the idea of dramatizing or publicizing this through a ceremony at the White House, but believes that the prayer should be conducted in the places of worship of the people. He does not ask that we do anything about this, but wishes me, when Mrs. Roosevelt raises it, to give her my impression along these lines. CONFIBUNTIAL DECLASSIFIED E. O. 11652, Sec. 3(E) and 5(D) or (E) 3-16-76 Dept. of State letter, Bag NLT- HC , NARS Date 6-14-76 S: DA:be
