Dr. Roem said he had looked forward for a long time to coming to the United States. He regretted that he is obliged to depart on Saturday to participate in the Second Conference of Union Ministers at The Hague. He hoped that he might visit the United States on subsequent occasions whereon he would participate in the meetings of the United Nations. The Minister expressed his appreciation of the assistance that the United States has given Indonesia in its struggle for sovereignty and during its first year of independent existence. Mr. Cochran stated that he had visited the Export-Import Bank since his arrival in the United States. He had found that approximately 50 million dollars of the 100 million dollar line of credit had been ap- proved, and that projects covering the remainder were under active consideration. It was understood, however, that it might be advantage- ous to await the arrival in Indonesia of the engineering group of J. G. White & Company, and the advice of this group to the Indonesian Govern- ment, before closing plans for such important projects as those involved in hydroelectric power. Mr. Cochran also mentioned that progress was being
