Hutchins Mr. Bernard Le Mr. Oaithor COPIES TO: S E - Mr. Thorp UNA - Mr. Hickezson R - Mr. Amastrong oth/mrs - Mr. 1-1493_ Mr. Hoffam esplained that the purpose of the Ford Poundation's vinit to the Secrotary in a desire to insuro that the programo which the l'oundation undortalos and the projocts which it may support in arons of intorest to the Dapartant aro rande proporly lonown to the Department and are undortakun in a spirit of cooperation and mutual understending, Ile stated that the Foundation in turn would approciate being informed from timo to time of projocta the Department is interested in and the establishment of como simple nechanima by which each can koep itsolf properly posted. Por examplo, he said that Mr. Choster Davis will suporvise for the Foundation in the field of "exchango of persons," and that he has already talicod with Mr. William Johnationo of the Department. Further, lir. Hoffimm recalled from hia om experiences in ECA that thero are tines when logitinate projects of valuó to tho Dovormment go by the board becauso, for various reasons, a Departant 18 umilling or unable to seek appropriations in sone such instances, possibly the Foundation could help out. Mr. Hoffinan then ankod if a liaison arrange- ment with the Department could be established.
