903 DEPARTMENT OF STATE 18 OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY CONFIDENTIAL January 16, 1952 INATIONAL RECORDS AND FE Mr. Johnson: I discussed with Mr. Snyder the matter of the remittance by the Chase National Bank which was the subject of your memorandum to me of January 16, 1952. I drew to Mr. Snyder's attention the considerations mentioned in your memorandum. He said he had considered these. However, the Chase Bank informed him that they believed that they had a fair hearing and were satisfied, and that they accepted as proper the adjudication against them. They felt that to refuse to pay a claim which they believed fair, particu- larly when this would result in difficulties for their employee, was not justified. Mr. Snyder said that they agreed and the Treasury agreed that no further amounts should be paid. I said that we recognized fully that Mr. Snyder had the legal power and responsibility in the matter, and that we wished him to consider the points which we brought before him and were ready to accept his decision, which I took it to be to authorize the remittance. DECLASSIFIED E. O. 11652, Sec. 3(E) and 5(D) 03 (E) D.pt. of State letter. Aug33.1973 5.12.26 By NLT- HC : NARS Data 2-1-76 S DA:ma CONFIDENTIAL
