The Tugoslay Ambassador dalled on Maroh 6, by appointment made at nia request.
le expressed appreciation for the tripariite decision to extend $45,000,000 in
eccnonic aid to Yugoolavia during the renainder of fiscal 1952, anounasment of
which was comminated to the Yugoslav Dovernment last whok and, widle noting that
that figure was not quite all the Yugoslava had felt to be necessary, stated that
it was of importance that the aid has been given on a tripurtite basis.
The Ambassador referred to previons with Mr. Thorp and inquired
whother the YugosLava could be sold anything concering the progress of the tri-
partite economic aid talits now in progress here. 1 aaid that thote is nothing to
toll the Tagoblava at this point, that the three would inform the Tugo-
slava at the earliest appropriate bat that it might not be helpful to the
Yugoslav Dovatment to give any advance indication as to the probable final outoomo,
partioularly auch advance information might be mislonding in viow of the fact
that even when the talica ara concluded it will abill be nocessary ou our part to
obtain the money involved from Congress before a final deternination onn be nado.
The Axbessador sumod next to the investiment program appetts of Tugoslav aid
and urged that the US delegation in the tripartito tallo adhere to the proposals
already vorined out with the Illa presentations or the latter Atem was sonowhet
obgoure, but I assured him that hie views would be brought to Thorp's abtention.
