He know thet the Belgiena\nand probably the others yould not act until after the Fronch hnd ratified, and\nFrench retification seened to bo frought with difficulties and out of the\nquestion until nent spring. He syspathized with the French and mentioned the\nterrible problem pased to France in having to choose between reconsticution\nof Germany armed might on the one hand, end the danger or Soviet aggression de\nthe othor. the problem for the Retherlands was not quite as difficult begause\nthey realized that there' una no possibility of any defenso of their\nunless Gexmen military support was assured.\nthe Secretery expreesed his gratification thut the Netherlande Govorment\nintends to preas for ratification end said that it would have an importent\ninfluence in Westero Europe 11 the Dutch should retify the RDC without valting\nfor action on the part of the Fronch end other nations.\nTunisia and Norocco.\nNx. Luns then reised the question of consideration by the UN of Tunisia\nand Morocco. He said it vas of the groatest Amportance that the French should\nreceive our support. He urged that wo use oux influence overy way that wa\ncould in persunding the Arab-Asian nations from pushing this issue in en\nuncempromising menner. Nearth Africa had becomo so important to public oginion\nwithin Frence that neither this French Government nox any other could\nconcessions. Bhonld wo fall France at this time it might have vory serious\nconsequences. the Seccetery outlined to Mr. Yuns the comvormations be\nhad recently with Sir Zafrulla Ehan, Pandit, Palar,\nIr. Al-Janali, and other leadera of the Arab-Agien group, in vich he hna\nurged upon them the grent importance of moderatico. He had saphasised that\nif these lenders vished the UN to lanvo any possibility of being halpful in\nthe metter they mant not insiet on controversial queations such as repram\nsentation in the Committee for Tunia and Morocço. the Secretary noted the\nreasonable attitude he hnd Tound in Zafrualla Than, and Dre. Luns agreed\nthat there way be some hope from him. He, hinself, would work with the\nIndegesions, with whom the Dutch had some influence when it did not concera\nTethorlands' intemests. The Secretary then gave Nr. Iams a complete resulos\nof U.S."
