- 30 - which Chinese government to invite to the peace conferences The final compromise agreed upon was to invite neither government and leave it to the Japanese to sign a peace treaty with the government of their choice. On July 3 a jointly-sponsored British-American draft 35 Peace Treaty was sent to all the other countries at war with Japan, requesting that these countries submit their criticisms and suggestions for revision. On July 12, this draft was made public. On July 20 a somewhat revised version was again circulated for suggestions and criticism. On the same day, invitations were extended to forty-odd nations to attend a conference for formal signing of the peace treaty at San Francisco. On August 13 the final draft of the Peace Treaty was circulated by Britain and the United States to the other nations, and on August 15 36 S. it was released to the public. The Tripartite Security Treaty with Australia and SERVICES NECORDS is THIS New Zealand was signed on September 1 in San Francisco and, on September 8, in the same city, the Peace Treaty with Japan and the United States-Japan Security Treaty were signed. A Treaty of Mutual Defense had been signed in Washington on August 30 by the United States and the 37 Philippines. Some brief remarks on the Peace Treaty are probably apropos at this point.
