Dear Heinie:
I will be glad to do anything I possibly can for old Bunk
Farrington, and if he has everything they say he has in that
letter he certainly should be in his coffin instead of get-
ting compensation. I will do everything I can for him.
There is not a chance in the world to get a job in Washington
now. Everybody is just hanging on to positions here by their
eyebrows, and when old man Glass and I get through cutting
down on these appropriations there will be more bureaucrats
going home than there will be train room on the B and 0 to
haul them. As soon as this spasm is over I may be able to do
some of my friends some good.
I am glad that Dave Thompson took that cure, although right
at the present time I don't feel as if I could use him in the
post office at Independence.
If you go to the Padre to take that pledge be very careful
and have your fingers crossed because if I remember correctly
that same pledge has been taken at least a dozen times, and I
really want you to have your fingers crossed when you take it.
I hope that increased postal business adds $100 a year to your
salary from now on, and if Bill Hirth and Stark don't send me
home I imagine Dave Thompson will still get the job.
