WASHINGTON
April 5, 1952
Dear Hinie:
I certainly appreciate your warm response
to my announcement at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner
on the twenty-ninth that I would not be a candidate
for re-election. I think I know exactly what you
mean and, indeed, your solicitous interest in the
welfare and happiness of the family and me pleases
all of us.
Despite the heavy responsibilities that
have been mine since 1945, I have enjoyed serving
my country. As you and the "Harps" know, I'm a
little proud of my career from precinct to Presi-
dent.
Bess joins me in thanks for your good
wishes. Margie is on a concert tour just now.
Very sincerely yours,
Honorable Edgar G. Hinde,
Postmaster,
Independence,
Missouri.
