August 6, 1954 Honorable Harry S. Truman Independence, Missouri. Dear Mr. President: On Tuesday evening, August 17th, a group of gentlemen (sometimes I wonder) are going to have a dinner at Oakwood Country Club- and as usual, it will be a real Oakwood dinner. Immediately following the dinner, there will be a short discussion of plans for a fishing trip. It should not last very long. The balance of the evening will be taken up by a cultural study on the papers of your very dear friend the late Judge Vincent. Vensors There are fifty-three different phases of this work, and no doubt there will be agreements and disagreements as to the values of these various pieces of papers. You being so familier with the various papers involved, we would very much like to have you there-hoping your health will permit it. I know you are not a very mercenary gentle- man, but there is a possiblity that you will be paid for your judgement and knowledge of these papers just a possibility. Anyway, I hope you can attend. If so, I will see that you get there, and get you back home early. With kindest regards from our entire cultural organization, I am, Sincerely, SOVERNMENT
